The minutes hung in the air like clocks frozen in time, the moments dripped slowly from their faces, as the unwavering march of time stood eerily still. The ticking of the second hand nearly stopped. As the wind’s unrelenting force gathered outside the walls, the sound was like that of an army of men marching in unison, each boot falling at the same time, but they would not pass…there outside in the driving rain, they held their place, one stomp followed by another, unyielding…
It’s been nearly a month since the passing of Irma over St Thomas, nearly a month since life as we once knew it changed, never to be the same again. All that was familiar about our lives, replaced by the desolate destruction of the storms.
Those of us who call this rock our home, know that beneath the rubble and the waste is a pulse, an unrelenting spirit of creation, love, resilience…that amongst us is an unbroken spirit. We each do our part, we share a message of hope, we offer help to those in need, and we give thanks for what we have!
Every little bit you do can help! When we learned that there were tarps for sale at Pricemart, we knew that some had nothing…so we bought them all, every tarp they had, we took them down to waterfront and we gave them away, with hugs! There are more tarps coming, and we will buy those too, and they, just like those that went before will be handed out for free, with hugs. Because shelter is important, because love is important, because doing our part is important!
