It’s during this time of year that we turn back on the days past and take stock of those things we have to be thankful for. We look outward at our friends, or family, the loved ones in our lives who have shared with us in moments of deep despair and have heralded our triumphs. We gaze inwardly at our growth, the trails we have endured and the lessons we have learned.
This year, is no exception, however it is extraordinary in many ways. For it is in this moment, unlike any other time in my recollection, when the appreciation for those things once taken for granted, those simple pleasure in life, becomes paramount. A warm meal, a hot shower, the faint glow of a bulb once dimmed to darkness. As we stand at the precipice of a new year, we recall the relentless winds, the battering rains, and the communities we love beaten, but not broken.
Amidst these memories, these dark spots in the annals of Virgin Islands history, bright spots begin to appear on the horizon. Like the faint glow of the power being slowly restored on a neighboring island, darkened for so many days, these bright spots grew in intensity as scores of strangers became friends, as help began to mount, and people once separated by time and space, pulled together to help those in need.
Today, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to be a small part of a complex puzzle, to be a cog in the wheel of relief and aid to a community we love!
Our work isn’t done…we stand firm in our resolve to continue, like many others, to help where we can in any way we can and you can too!
Today we are focused on bringing light and love to the holiday season, so while you finish your holiday shopping, please take a moment to share this story, to spread some holiday cheer to those in need!
